Gauging interest in short run CD's

Hi, would you actively support independent music!
You know how the music industry is going down the toilet right? Do you like my sound, and would you like to get a tangible object in return for your support?
Here is my idea:
You pay roundabout £10 / €15 / $20 via PayPal, I send you a CD of one (or more) of the albums I am currently in the act of releasing online.
There are many companies specialising in short CD runs, if I made 100 of each release, could I sell them? Perhaps each CD could have an exclusive mix or track not available online.
I have heard that CD sales are nosediving, but I have also yet to find out how successful my downloading venture will be.
Anyway, if this something that you would be interested in, please leave a comment or send a mail to info@cylobindustries.com.
P.S. Vinyl... forget it, I can't do that myself. Apart from anything else, runs would need to be in excess of 500. I need a hookup with an actual record label for that!

  1. I'd go for a CD. I'm into downloading mp3's but still go for a hard copy of my favourite releases. Maybe you could go down the route of the analord binder and get those people who want it to pay for it before its printed up. Like you said though, it should differ from the digital download, maybe with a copy of that traktor like software you're going to program. Hint Hint :-]

  2. same, i'd go for the cd too ; being a fan i'll get the flac version of the latest cylob industries ones but its a bit ennoying to pay something like 9£ for a flac album (the sound is not as good as on cd) while new cds cost like 10£... its just weird that the latest prince is given on cd with dailymiror in the uk??

my "advice" would be to focus on digital & a bit later sell alternate/ultra limited version of recordings via CDs.

  6. i prefer something to hold CD than pure digital...too easy to loose and forget about with all the other code

  7. yes sir. i love buying right from the original producer and maybe my kids won't mind paying for mp3s, but i love owning a physical object.

  9. I enjoyed the instant gratification of finding out about the release and then listening 5 minutes later. The 1 track was a good idea, as it forces people to listen to it in entirety, which can only be a good thing, as most people these days dont seem to listen through albums, just skip to the tracks that instantly jumped at them. O :), great release btw. Look forward to hearing it live soon.

  11. Hell yeah Chris, i'd deffinatly pay for a hardcopy CD. I have a big weak for hard formats. Maybe it's an idea to send out 3" CD's, if the length of the release sticks within range.

    Bottom line yes, gimme CD.

  12. Yo Chris,

You should do this, but only on a preorder basis. That way, you don't over/under produce, only the true collectors/fans get one, and everybody's happy.

  13. CD's? Yes please! Maybe throw in some funny stickers or posters, I dunno...
Digital distribution is great for your fans on other continents (like me,) just keep offering flac, if you're willing to post some discs all this way I'd be more than grateful.
I'd throw you $20 just for a full copy of your Glade Festival 2005 performance, it was longer than the 20 minute sample, right? ;)
BTW the new album kicks! Thanks a lot.

  14. Hi Frank,
yes the Glade performance was longer than the 20 minutes aired... however, what was heard on radio was not recorded at the Glade! I was contacted monday morning to say the recording was less than usable, so it was left to me to recreate something along the lines of what I had played, including shouting on the mic. Yet another shameful episode in the BBC's culture of dishonesty!

  15. That explains why Ceephax's AOC set recording was different from the video recording i found on youtube. Yet i cannot explain the faint crowd screams in the back.

  16. Hi Fah,
better late than never.... well you're talking about another event there, and don't forget there have been 4 different Acid On Seas now. I have the full hour recording of Ceephax last year and believe it was the same one that made it to air, although they might have broadcast edited highlights who knows, I didn't go through it with a fine toothcomb.
